SOCIAL MEDIA V.S PRIVACY
Nowadays, we are waterboarded with any and all things social media. From the moment you launch your Instagram app in the morning while waiting for your cup of coffee to brew, you have all kinds of things thrown your way: whether it may be more Covid-19 news, President Biden news, the latest tea regarding your favorite celebrity or the new expensive item your favorite influencer just bought with their bottomless pit of a bank account apparently. Social Media is all about sharing and being social which is how you grow and build your own brand, but where do we draw the line? It truly blows my mind how some influencers share a lot of their intimate details of their life on their social media; whether it be their closet and their expensive shoe collection, a tour of their new home they bought, and even going as far as sharing their marital woes on their Youtube channel. Which brings up the issue of where do we draw the line? I am all about sharing my life on social media, but out of respect for me and my family, I have to find a decent balance.
I have always been one to keep things to myself, being new to the instagram game and sharing a lot of my life has me making a conscious decision of what to post and what not to post. I guess it’s my Armenian conscience telling me to not share my achievements or new chapters in my life because not everyone will be happy for me. It is true though, just because people follow you on instagram doesn’t necessarily mean they like you or want to see you succeed. I find myself very conflicted about what to share because I want to share all the great things happening in my life since that is the point of the social media game, but on the other hand, I don’t want everyone seeing it all happen either.
Where do you stand? Do you think it is ok to share everything in your life or are you one of the people who do not want to show the world what you’re up to?
