PRE SCHOOL: TO SEND OR NOT SEND; THAT IS THE QUESTION.
So much anxiety came along my wife and I when it came down to whether or not sending Arianna to pre-school at 2 years old is a good idea. We were so worried about how she would handle being away from us, worried about whether or not she would vibe with the other children, listen to the teacher, how she would handle nap time since she refuses to sleep anywhere that isn’t her bed. To our pleasant surprise, from the very first day, she did absolutely beautifully. She did not and still does not cry when we drop her off, she wakes up extremely excited to go to school, she gets ready and pulls on our front door because she is ready to leave the house, she starts laughing and clapping when we approach her school and even says her teachers name in excitement. As a parent, it such a relief and exciting to know your child is going to school and excited about it.
She has developed so much just in the 1 month that she has been going:
- Social Skills have improved significantly. She has ALWAYS loved kids and playing with kids so that was never an issue, the issue was when she would see certain family members or people she didn’t know, she would scream bloody murder. Thank god that has significantly improved. Ariannas doctor said its called “stranger anxiety” it should go away at the age of 2 especially when she starts school. That’s exactly what happened.
- Language Development - Her speech has improved ever since becoming 2 years old and we think her school played a huge role in that. She is expressing herself more verbally, she is speaking more words now and listens to directions better.
- Nap Time - We had no idea how the teachers were going to handle her napping because she is not the best at it but lo and behold, the child naps for an hour and a half everyday. These teachers really are miracle workers WOW!
- Behavior - Her behavior has been improving at home as well. She is more well-behaved these days and listens to us when we say no.
Parents, if you are thinking about sending your 2 year old to pre-school, DO IT! It really does wonders for them and their development. One day your kid may surprise you and come home doing and saying new things. I am so happy the teachers and staff at Ariannas school take such good care of her and are so kind to the kids. They really do put our minds at ease. However, you should always consult your child's’ pediatrician whether or not this is the right step for you and your baby.
